3 down from a league of 14 is absolutely ridiculous

You need to be at the other end then.

More importantly is what has not been decided. The Championship. Will there be promotion to the Premiership? Will they change the criteria to 5k? Was this the deal the Premiership did with Ealing to prevent a costly court case? If Ealing or Doncaster win the league next season, Ealing's recruitment has already been incredible, Then this will leave the Championship with 11 teams, will they chose to stay at 12 with no relegation from the Premiership, which will mean 1 up from Nat 1 and no one down which will change relegation from Nat 1 to 2 teams and 3 up. Or more controversially go to a 14 team league which would mean 3 promoted, no relegation and three up .
Your guess is a good as mine as it took until the last 6 weeks of last season before they made their final decision . How difficult is it for 12 men (representatives of the Championship clubs) to sit in a room and agree the options which are very limited . Personally I would lock the door and they do not come out until they agree.

I don't know, it makes the league interesting. Clubs will have to be competitive to avoid the drop and a reduction in less meaningful middle of the table fixtures.

From 2001 to 2008 when we were National Division 2, it was three down from 14, except in 2004 and 2006 when upper leagues were juggled. In 2009, four teams went down from 14.

If only it were that simple. The Championship clubs are not the people making those decisions. The RFU are deciding based on the demands of the Premiership, and their funders.

You'd have thought that would have sunk in by now, but evidently not.

I think the suspension and threatened relegation of Worcester and Wasps from the Premiership will lead to more twists and turns in both the Championship and National One. Given that the top 3 leagues each have their own governance alongside the ‘input’ from the RFU it will take an age to get any clarity on promotion paths for next season.

Hoping for a Top 14 (other numbers are available) and Pro D2 type solution where the top 2 tiers agree the broadcast deal between them and there is still promotion / relegation from the third tier and below. Expecting a long drawn out battle of self interested owners and the RFU shooting the game in the foot.

If nothing else it will give us all something else to mutter about besides our own team’s performances.
