Pool A
Jersey 5-0 Pury - Big home win

Pool C
Amps 5-0 Mond  - Richmond showing total disdain for meaningless cup

Pool A
Jersey 5-0 Hartpury ... Jersey will rotate, but it will not make a difference.
Nottingham 0-5 Ealing ... Back-to-back nasties for Nottingham. Can't see past another big win for ET.

Pool B
Bedford 1-5 Cov ... Was last week's result against LS a blip? we shall find out, but I am not so sure (prepared to be proved wrong though).
LS 1-5 Doncaster ... Will last week's result kick start the Exiles season? I'm not so sure. Donny will be really tough up front, but LS have proved that they can score tries.

Pool C
Ampthill 5-0 Richmond ... This will be tight, but I think that the Mob will run away with it at the end.
Caldy 0-5 CP ... Pirates to build on their big win last week. Expect more of the same.

I'm not saying the cup has captured my imagination (nor anyone else's)... but it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. 2 clashes this weekend between teams that lost their opening game: lose 2 on the spin and you'd face a real battle to get in the mix to qualify.

Posted By: corporalcarrot
Date Posted: 08 Nov 2022 at 20:08
As only one team from each pool + best second place qualifies it seems likely that two losses will be one too many to qualify. The format is:

4.3 The Cup format is as follows: (i) Round 1 – 6 ties played Home and Away involving the twelve Championship Clubs that finish in positions 1-11th in the 2021-22 Championship, and the promoted Club from National 1 from the 2021-22 League. (ii) Clubs will play in 3 pools of 4 Clubs, as below: Pool A Pool B Pool C 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th Promoted (iii) Semi-finals – 4 qualifiers determined as the 1st placed Club in each pool, and one 2nd placed Club with the Best Playing Record in Rounds 1 - 6. (iv) Semi-finals will be played as follows: • Semi-final 1 – the highest ranked Club plays the lowest ranked Club; played at the home venue of the highest ranked Club. • Semi-final 2 – the second highest ranked Club plays the third highest ranked Club; played at the home venue of the second highest ranked Club. (v) Final – the two semi-final winners; played at the home venue of the Club with the Best Playing Record from the semi-finals.

pool a  jersey  5 0 hartpury  - Harpury were baaaaaad last weekend.
nottingham 1 5 ealing - I think Ealing will still score 40, but may leak four tries, especially in the closing stages.

pool b   bedford  0  5 coventry - Bedford lost to Scottish.
              scottish  1 5 doncaster - Scottish can't win two in a row.

pool c     ampthill  5 0 richmond - Richmond don't seem to take the cup seriously - I may make the squad this week.
caldy       5 1 pirates - The longest of journeys to favor the home side.

Jersey 5-0 Hartpury. It's a long way to go to come second by a mile so I wish the Hartpury lads a good night out on Saturday.
Nottingham 1-5 Ealing. The Ealing machine to rumble on but I see Nottingham scoring 4 tries.
Bedford 1-4 Coventry. If the weather is wet, then the Coventry forwards will pound the Bedford pack.
L Scottish 0-4 Doncaster. A professional side should take every game seriously. I expect Doncaster to prevail.
Ampthill 5-0 Richmond. I base this prediction purely on last week's results.
Caldy 1-4 C Pirates. The Pirates will be encouraged by last week's result and should just hold their ground.

Sorry KB but your question comes across as churlish. 3k in this comp is a magnificent crowd, whatever marketing tools or promotions were used to tempt them through the gate (after which they'd have spent money on food, drink, merch, programmes etc, as well as contributing to good atmosphere no doubt). Well done Blues...Clap

Wasn't travelling 8 hours round trip for a cup match, but would enjoy more detail on how Ealing was awful. A concern as they had many starters out there (mixed in with a few 3rd and 4th choices).

Notts ran riot in the first half. It was 12-0 for quite some time and we spent an awful lot of time in the Ealing half. It was 12-5 to Notts at half time but I think we seemed to spend more time in the Ealing half than they did in ours.
Second half they did seem to wake up and come out firing but at one point we literally just ran straight through them. That said though the last few minutes we were camped on their line but they did hold firm.
Not the usual performance I would expect from Ealing. Like everyone else I was expecting a wrecking ball driven through us by Ealing but certainly for most of the first half it was very much the other way round. They seemed a bit subdued. I was looking out for Jonah Holmes as he was my husband’s favourite player from his time at Tigers but he seemed to be almost invisible.

Thanks for the additional info. Ealing have often struggled at Lady Bay, and Nottingham seems to be a much improved side this year. That said, I'm not sure what might have caused them to come out so flat, unless it was the lack of Rayn Smid in the side. Although he isn't captaining the side this year, he seems quite important to their organization and crispness of play.
