Appointed Leicester head coach today. Spent a couple years coaching at Ealing as his first coaching experience while he was still with Sarries.

Every summer we see Championship players being signed by Premiership clubs, but can anyone remember an example of a Championship DoR being given a similar opportunity at the top table?  Lee Blackett made his way up to Head Coach at Wasps, but originally joined as Backs Coach, and it seems that Premiership teams would rather appoint a recently-retired player with little experience than look at a Ben Ward/ Gavin Cattle/ Harvey Biljon/ Mike Rayer etc - although I'm not saying I expected one of those guys to get the Leicester job.

Fully agree mate & I would include Rae & Bodes in your list both brilliant young coaches.

In 1998 Rudolph Straeuli transitioned from player coach at level 2 Bedford. Later to take over as national head coach with the SA Springboks in 2002 and then the Emirate Lions.
