Here we go with sides nearly on same number of matches played. No offence to teams not specifically mentioned Sale Esher - A Chinnor - H Hull - A B Stortford - H * DMP - A * Rams - H (1 April) * R Park - A * Moseley - H The run in across March / April has some challenging fixtures with Rams & Rosslyn Park being their trickiest, but DMP away won't be simple and Stortford love to run. ------------- "My father told me big men fall just as quick as little ones, if you put a sword through their hearts." |

Cambridge Bishops Stortford - H * Cinderford - A * R Park - H * Esher - A Moseley - H * Chinnor - A Leeds - A Hull - A P Albion - A * 5 banana skins lurking with the first three interesting! Given the way the league has been the last two years, I would suggest for the top four/five teams every game is a potential banana skin. Why it is so much more fun than the premiership as a spectacle!

Sale have been the nearly men on a few occasions twice against Caldy and once aagainst Old Elthamians. They will be favourites in all the last three games but if as I think is likely they beat Rams this coming Saturday they still need Rams to slip up somewhere else. Sale have to get a bonus point win against Rams and deny Rams any points ......it is a tall order but I think that a mature and focussed Sale may just do it.

I think Rams will see this through and they will beat Sale this weekend, it should be a hell of a game. If Sale did get promoted would that pose an issue for Caldy, who had three outstanding Sale youngsters playing for them On Saturday ? I would like to see another Northern Team move up, it’s great seeing what Caldy have done this season to the establishment :-) ------------- Run with it |

Now Eddie, Cambridge have a game in hand so Sale win would be useful, but games won may come in to play. If only we'd managed the Caldy game last year... penalties not lineouts. Hence ifs and buts..

Meanwhile down in the relegation mix. Sadly Hull already down. This leaves Moseley, Chinnor, DMP, Esher, Taunton and Leeds in the mix potentially, but after this week’s games that could all change for some. ------------- Cauliflower ear. |

I feel DMP Moseley and Chinnor have done enough with the 7/8 point cushions they have I can’t see any of them not getting at least 3 bonus points from last three games. It seems it’s Leeds, Hull and the key fixture could be DMP v Esher, Mosley v Taunton and Taunton v Leeds. I think Taunton will scrape it with DMP being the blow to Esher this year

No. It is three, assuming every club is able to continue for next season. But if any club, or Wasps, does not take up their place, and informs the RFU in time for leagues to be rearranged, it could be fewer. ------------- Sweeney Delenda Est |

Islander, I cannot find it in the new regulations. It
used to align with the publication of schedules - though there was a
clause permitting a National 1 side to be promoted to fill a gap in the
top two leagues until September (though Nat 1 would run one short in that
case). Elthamians kept assuring the RFU they
had a new funding source until it was too late to rejig the league,

With two games to go (three for Cambridge) It really is between Rams and Cambridge and who is going to blink first. Sale have a tricky trip to Roslyn Park, Rams have Cinderford visiting (always a difficult game) and Cambridge have an away trip to Plymouth where only Bishop’s have picked up five points this season. If Sale sneak this, and it’s a big if, it will be because Rams and Cambridge have both dropped a point and Sale have managed a five pointer at RP for the first time ever. However, possibly the most important thing for those three clubs (and their oppositions), is that these last games of the season will be rammed with people spending money behind the bar, boosting their clubs and promoting National One rugby. Also, despite the rather ludicrous Rugby Paper claiming we had only circa 600 people on Saturday, Heywood Road had 300 people dining prior to kick off, Rams brought at least 100 on coaches, Leicester Forest East Under 16s were on tour and had a coach load as well, the bars were absolutely rammed with people. Our count was 1400+. Fun fact that we might have a three way tie at the top, which if that was the case, Sale would go up, Cambridge 2nd and Rams 3rd. However if all three pick up five points from their last games, Sale will come 3rd having lost only three games all season. Whoever goes up, will definitely deserve it and it sets up a mouthwatering 2023-24 season in National One! Fingers crossed it’s decided on the last day of the official season as that will round off a truly remarkable year of rugby that even the RFU can’t c*ck up :-)

Jimbo Lad, I was at the game and my estimate was a crowd of circa 1,500 plus. The main stand was almost full and there was a lot of people on the balcony and on the far side there was also a decent number in the Jim Birtles stand. However, I wouldn't place the blame at the door of The Rugby Paper as it is likely that someone from Sale FC provided the attendance figure. Unfortunately, Cambridge v Moseley is the final day of the season - on 29th April. So it may be decided on the last day of the official season, but there's a fair chance it won't be and teams at both ends could be hanging around waiting for the result for a few days after their own seasons have finished.

Quite possibly and If that’s the case I suspect that you will have a bumper crowd of either Rams and/or Sale supporters down to watch cheering on Mose while their respective executives cheer on Cambridge so they can deal with the weirdness of whatever is going on in the Champ 😂

| The problem for Nat 1 in the 23/24 season will be the possible reorganisation of the Prem and Championship into 2 Premiership leagues of 10 which will mean up to 4 relegated and possibly no promotion. In addition there is also the discussion to Split level 3 into North and South 14 team leagues so Nat 2 leagues will have 10 promoted. |

Probably not as large as the crowd at Barking, when they played London Scottish in the winner takes all promotion match, many seasons ago. A stunning match, sealed by a 90-yard interception try in the dying moments. It is all very tight, but much less stressful than coming to Sale needing a win and luck to stay up, just a few seasons ago. Sale, who were safe, did us a big favour by turning up in a party mood. Moseley helped by beating Caldy, who were relegated - but look at what they have done since. ------------- Sweeney Delenda Est |

HITR I was there too, trying to find ES and BC, as it was their round😂😂😂. It was heartbreaking for Barking that day. Talk about fine margins. It was also heartbreaking for Barking at the end of the following season when they were relegated from National One. Once again I was there as it was the game at Barking and the defeat against Sedge that sealed their fate. A bizarre turn of events. That very risky long pass was clearly a lost opportunity.
