Pool A

Fri 17th 7.45PM Pury (6pts)  0-5 Trailfinders (21pts) Visitors hoping for home draw in semi-final

Fri 17th 7.30PM Jersey (20pts) 5-0 Archers (6pts) Banker home win to secure best runner-up

Pool B

Fri 17th 7.30PM McQuins (5pts) 0-5 Cov (16pts) May be a try fest

Sat 18th 3PM Blues (10pts) 4-1 Donny (20pts) Easily the tie of the round Donny this pool could go down to points difference

Pool C

Sat 18th 2PM Amps (16pts) 3-3 Pirates (25pts) Could go either way but Pirates should secure home semi-final with at least a point

Sat 18th 2PM Ravers (6pts) 3-3 Mond (6pts) Dead rubber both sides to negotiate for 30 mins each way and early adjournment to the bar.

My predicted semi-finals:

Pirates v Jersey and Trailfinders v Cov.

Hartpury 0-5 Ealing. Home side has zero incentive. The away side has spades of incentive.
Jersey 5-0. The home side has spades of incentive. The away side doesn’t.
L Scottish 0-5 Coventry. Coventry will still hope to pip Donny to qualify.
Bedford 1-4 Doncaster. Donny should play out of their skins whilst keeping an eye on events in London.
Ampthill 5-1 Pirates. Ampthill are enjoying a good run and still have a very outside chance of qualifying. Pirates have already qualified so to them it is a dead game.
Caldy 5-0 Richmond. A dead rubber but Caldy enjoy winning more.

Hartpury 0 - 5 Ealing … No slip up here from ET.
Jersey 5 - 0 Nottingham … Jersey will want to make sure of a semi final slot and pray that ET do slip up.
L Scottish 0 - 5 Coventry … Coventry probably have a better chance of winning the pool than to finish as best runner up.
Bedford 5 - 2 Doncaster … Nasty trip for Donny here with everything to lose. Bedford remain unbeaten at home this season and won’t want a dent in that record. Great game in prospect here.
Ampthill 0 - 5 Pirates … Pirates to remain as No. 1 seeds and a home semi-final.
Caldy 5 - 2 Richmond … A long way to go for a dead rubber, but I think that there will be points galore in this game and could be very entertaining.

FT 28-38 Hart v ET
FT 31-10 Reds v Nott

So ET qualify with 26pts, Reds qualify with 25pts.

Cov waiting with 21pts, fairly sure Donny (20) will need 2 points tomorrow to top the pool with pts diff the 1st tie-breaker. Ampthill (16) would need a huge win (50ish pts) over Pirates to elbow their way in while Pirates (25) have qualified but need 1pt to guarantee their home SF spot; their pts diff is well above Reds, but the point would probably make them top seeds above Ealing...

Nottingham can consider themselves hard done by to leave Jersey with nothing for their efforts (that probably sums up their season).
After conceding an early try, they were superb for the rest of the half and it was only down to some desperate defending that kept the Reds ahead until a fantastic break by the Jersey 9 led to the second try on the stroke of HT.
The Reds came out with purpose in the second half and built an unassailable lead before Nottingham showed great spirit to come at them again scoring one of the breakaway tries of the season in the process.
Jersey were worthy winners, but the score did flatter

Agree with that Brizz. Would also mention assistant ref Ian Bibey. Due on the last flight on Thu, fog cancellation meant he couldn’t get another flight until 4ish on match-day. He was due at 5.10 but landed half an hour late. Straight to club & while warming up is advised by ref that he will have to take charge as a result of ref’s back injury. He’s at the upper end of the spectrum for high-level refs (late 40s) & hadn’t reffed a game this season, but he did excellently… Clap

FT elsewhere in Beds - Amps 14 Pirates 23 (2 tries to 3), the men from Kernow make it 6/6 to ensure they're top seeds.

HT Blues (BP) 28-14 Knights

Knights have done well to be only 14 down.

Blues dominating in open play and upfront so much so Knights took off one prop around 20 mins and then the other after 33 mins, but their scrum is still struggling.

Blues go up slope 2nd half.

Now Blues 42-28 Donny (5-1) would put Cov through

BUT A PENALTY TRY FOR DONNY ON LAST PLAY (5-2) Still playing Blues 42-35 Donny

Now 42 ALL or twitter is teasing me. (3-3) points so Donny progress to semi-final presumably away to Ealing.

Nothing about the possible changes like Championship reducing to 10 teams.
The affect of Wasps being dropped in the league next season.

Even this Tuesday, with no,football, I don’t expect any extra rugby talk.

Certainly if the mergers take place at BBC Locals, I will say the scant, rugby scores if they remember will reduce. Under the impression evening’s will only opt out when live commentary happens.

Worth nothing the same station often does not give out Bishops Stortford or Old Albanians scores.

That was just a warm up KB.  Expect nearly 4000 for the forthcoming Friday night match. Even though it was a dead rubber for The Blues yesterday, Bedfordians love their rugby and Doncaster came to play, which made a great afternoon.

With nothing to play for I felt Blues threw the game away but you have to give credit to Knights who looked out of it for large parts of the game but clawed it back twice.

Referee missed a few crucial things and how Blues ended up with 2 yellows and nothing for the Knights props where if we were playing Jersey we would have lost 2 for yellows and then another for uncontested scrums.

Blues came to entertain in a dead rubber and the fans were entertained although slightly disappointed it wasn’t the win.

Great kicking by both kickers as many of the tries were closer to the touchline.

They was a lot of physicality and big hits so I imagine in 2 weeks time it is going to be even more fiercely contested.

I agree the referee missed a few crucial calls - like you I thought a prop should have probably gone for 10 mins, on the flip side, once the line judge / assistant ref spotted your loose head dropping his shoulder the scrum seemed to even up after that. Not saying that happened all the time prior to that though - your pack was stronger for sure.

Offsides didn’t seem to be present in the referees book - the Blues seemed to always be a yard in front ( but as the old saying goes play to the referees whistle so onwards we go). It was a very entertaining game and I thought the blues were the better team for most of that game but somehow we clawed our way back numerous times. The slope and wind gave advantage both halves as each team won a half 28-14.

I think two weeks time will be another humdinger - going to try to get there if at all possible.
