Probably in the wrong place but e&oe:

FIXTURES & PREDICTIONS

Pool A

Sarries 5-0  Archers (Sat 23 Sept, 14:00) Banker home win

Pury 1-5 Cov (Sat 23 Sept, 14:30) Cov are going for this one

Glaws 5-2 Quins (Fri 22 Sept, 19:45) At home Glaws surely

Pool B

Falcons  5-2 Sharks (Fri 22 Sept, 19:45) Could go either way but loads of tries

Tiggers 5-2 Amps (Sun 24 Sep, 15:00) Banker home win

Blues 5-2 Ravers (Sat 23 Sept, 15:00) At home Blues to dominate but should be a grand day out for Ravers

Pool C

Jersey  5-0 Chiefs (Sat 23 Sept, 14:00) I can hardly believe I actually think that prediction is possible

Bath 1-4 London Scottish  (Sat 23 Sep, 14:00) Could go either way

Pool C/D

Blood & Sand 3-3 Pirates (Sat 23 Sept, 15:00) Game of the day for me and surely first points for home team

Pool D

Ealing 5-2 Donny (Sat 23 Sept, 14:30) At home Ealing but two very good teams so it should be close

Bears 4-1 Saints (Sat 23 Sep, 14:30) Could go either way

Warning for Pirates fans
If you are coming by car, you need to prebook parking.
These are available on the tickets page.

https://cambridgerugby.co.uk/tickets/" rel="nofollow - https://cambridgerugby.co.uk/tickets/

Unfortunately, we simply do not have enough parking spaces - as we need to keep the pitches playable.
So if spaces are full, you will need to find somewhere else to park.

The ground is not well served by public transport - and parking in Cambridge is difficult.

But if you park in the Trumpington Park and Ride, you can do it in two buses provided you leave there by 1:38, you will be at the ground by 2:10. Parking at the Park and Ride is free, you only pay for the bus. So if you have time, it is a three mile stroll through Granchester.

If you are coming by train, I would suggest a taxi or uber - especially if you are a group.

Not sure if this was mentioned elsewhere, but I've just seen that the round 4 and 5 televised games were announced:

Sunday October 1 2 pm Quins vs Saracens
Sunday October 8 130pm Saints vs. Donny

I believe these were originally TBA, but now have been posted on the TNT sports website.

Sarries 5 - 0 Nottingham ... Sarries will be too strong I feel.
Hartpury 0 - 5 Coventry ... Cov looking good, are taking this seriously and need the win
Glos 4 - 1 Harlequins ... No idea what strength side either are going to put out, but I have gone for the usual tight PL scoreline.
Newcastle 4 - 1 Sale ... As above!!
Leicester 5 - 0 Ampthill ... I really want the Mob to win this, but I think that Tigers will have just a bit too much in the tank.
Bedford 5 - 0 Caldy ... Really fun game this. Bedford to take all of the spoils though.
Jersey 4 - 1 Exeter ... Can't wait for this game. Jersey are on a roll, but I expect them to rotate a few of the players. Exeter to put out a similar side that destroyed the Colts from Bristol, but with a different result.
Bath 5 - 0 LS ... Bath will not make the kistake of losing 2 home games on the trot against Championship opposition. Expect a better team and a huge response.
Cambridge 1 - 5 CP ... This will be a good game and I fancy Cambridge to have some joy, but not the win.
Ealing 5 - 0 Donny ... As well as Donny have been playing and the fact that this is a top of the table clash, Ealing will want to win this game and win it well.
Bristol 1 - 4 Saints ... Not a scooby, but will go with away win as Bears have been playing the youngsters

I'm just hoping Chudley's back, as with Pellegrini away that'd be the loss of a seriously good half-back pairing Cov will need to overcome.

My guesses:

Saracens 5 - 0 Nottingham

Hartpury 1 - 5 Coventry - Cov looking good for top 4 and possibly pushing Ealing / Jersey all the way

Gloucester 5 - 2 Harlequins

Newcastle 4 - 0 Sale

Leicester 5 - 0 Ampthill

Bedford 5 - 0 Caldy

Jersey 5 - 1 Exeter - Jersey potential top 2 and to make Ealing work for their supper

Bath 5 - 0 LS

Cambridge 0 - 5 Pirates

Ealing 5 - 1 Doncaster – I think Ealing look very strong this year and are the Team to beat

Bristol 2 - 5 Saints

Looks like the Prem teams are upping the ante this weekend.

Saints and Brizz naming familiar looking sides.

And a saints U19 lad is now free to help coach my boys U14s which he hasn't been for a while.

Ealing Trailfinders Lineup to face Doncaster Knights: Strong side, with just a few changes to rotate forwards, and a few injury tweaks. In particular, Bobby DeWee is replaced by Andrew Davidson after a knock last weekend, while Ruben Bird-Tulloch comes back into the squad. Will be interesting to see Josh Taylor get a run out, as he is an academy product. Still no sign of Twelvetrees, Alo, or Williams in terms of big-name signings.

1 Kyle Whyte

2 Matt Cornish

3 Ross Kane

4 Barney Maddison

5 Andrew Davidson

6 Jordy Reid

7 Simon Uzokwe

8 Rayn Smid

9 Craig Hampson

10 Steven Shingler

11 Nathan Earle

12 Reuben Bird-Tulloch

13 Dan O’Brien

15 Cian Kelleher

Replacements:

16 Henry Walker

17 Brad Thyer

18 Jimmy Roots

Saracens 5 - 0 Nottingham - Sarries at home too strong for Nottingham (and most other teams)
Hartpury 1 - 5 Coventry  - Coventry on excellent form.
Gloucester 1 - 4 Harlequins - Quins to triumph over a Gloucester side who lost many players to Ealing ;)
Newcastle 4 - 1 Sale - Newcastle taking this competition seriously.
Leicester 5 - 0 Ampthill - I hope Ampthill enjoy their trip to Welford Road.
Bedford 5 - 0 Caldy - Bedford at home.
Jersey 2 - 5 Exeter - Really hope that the video of this is online to watch afterwards. Exeter taking this competition very seriously.
Bath 4 - 1 LS - Bath are bad, both in this competition and the prem, but not 'lose to Scottish' bad.
Cambridge 0 - 5 Pirates - Arrrrgh you going to see a Cambridge win? No.
Ealing 5 - 1 Doncaster - Ealing too strong at home on the fast-track, in the predicted sunshine.
Bristol 5 - 2 Saints - Bristol looked much stronger than Saints based on the last two weeks.

It seems Hartpury don't do such a thing online, unfortunately.
Indeed, for an educational establishment's rugby club they don't seem to do much at all online.
Their last 'News' item concerns the game between Hartpury and Cov... last December.

WHAT A MATCH! Ealing kicked a penalty at 78', but Donny won a penalty after the restart and kicked for goal as time expired from 45 meters. Just went under the crossbar.

Brilliant game to watch at St Peter. Chief's midfield defense and the ref's interpretation of offside was the key difference between the two sides. Great to see some real quality rugby by two good sides.

It was quite a game, and of course in such a tense and tight match it deserved to have the nail biting finish that it had. The result was not what I was hoping for but the spirit displayed by the Knights team was something to behold. That will hold us well going into the league.

From what I am told, with the exception of a couple of the Welsh lads on WC duty, that was pretty much Exeter’s PL side. It was a very even first half but as the game wore on the relentlessness of the Chief’s told ax they ran in some top quality scores. The turning point in the first half was a missed pen kick to the corner for Jersey with the ball going dead. Exeter then moved the ball the length of the field to score.
Great game, Jersey by no means disgraced, perhaps a little bit outclassed, but not by very much at all.
Regardless of that, what a game at Vallis Way!!

Not much comment on Pirates’ demolition job on Cambridge. Do any of the latter’s followers know how close their side was to a first choice lineup?

I would say we were possibly missing five or six first choice players at the start, and lost Joe Tarrant in the first half to a shoulder injury - but it was a representative side, no club can rely on a single player in any position.

We competed in the first half, and could easily have gone in ahead, but two early scores in the second half turned the tide, and then it was one way traffic as we chased the game.

We are still getting used to the pace of the fully professional sides, and have another harsh lesson to come next week when we host Ealing.

I would say that it was virtually a full Cambridge squad with a couple missing. First half was great to watch, albeit being 12-17 down, we even took the lead twice.
Second half, Pirates stretched their legs! I think we all knew that the step up to Level 2 would be a challenge with a limited budget and part time squad. Ealing next week followed by Bristol will be a step into the unknown.
Northampton (P 4th) , Bristol (P 9th), Ealing (C 2nd) , Doncaster (C 5th) and Pirates (C 6th) is a tough group!
First league game against Ampthill will be better marker.

We were there, having made the trip via Nottingham and Norfolk!
We were really impressed with how well the almost completely new Pirates back division gelled and played some lovely running rugby in the second half, helped by the sunny weather and a pristine playing surface.
We've been where Cambridge are - I remember well our first season in the second tier and it was a proper struggle to survive. It's a big step up. Wishing Cambridge well.  Nice club and very friendly, helpful people.

Sale Sharks have picked a full strength side for the Caldy fixture….. no Academy players just full strength Premiership side without those at the World Cup
