Bedford 5-0 London Scottish. A good Friday night crowd should see the Blues home.
Cambridge 5-2 Caldy. Cambridge are getting better and Caldy had a surprisingly heavy loss at home last week.
Coventry 2-5 Cornish Pirates. Coventry blow hot and cold and the Pirates seem fairly consistent to me.
Ealing 5-1 Doncaster. Doncaster had a good home win last week but they have been struggling lately.
Hartpury 2-5 Ampthill. There have been some cracking, high-scoring games between these two sides, and I only go for the As because I support them.

Ealing's backs this week are, frankly, amazing for this level. They are the first pick at every position in my opinion. The forwards are strong, but I'd prefer Kyle Whyte starting. I feel quite good about this line up. I'm buzzing for this match.

The fact Lloyd Williams is warming the bench is testament to how strong a side this is.

Coventry Rugby: Wilson; Hutler, Wand, Rigg, Martin; Pellegrini, Chudley; Nairau, Poole, Nicol; Tyas, Nkwocha; Ball, Kvesic, Nayalo.

Replacements: Biggs, Chilvers, Salt, Anstey, Ryan, Lane, Titherington, B

Nayalo back from Army duties, and Chudley moving from the bench.

Lloyd Williams is the better scrum half in my opinion. He seems to have a quicker service and lifts the tempo. Both are top scrum halves.

Tough team to beat, if the Knights win this one it will be well earned

HT Blues (3 tries) 17-17 (2 tries) Scottish

Blues go down the slope 2nd half.

Blues have been quite sloppy, giving an intercept and not finishing a few opportunities but I expect them to sort it out and run in the tries in the 2nd half.

To anyone interested, it’s somewhat of a rout in the friendly at the Bay between the Army and Nottingham.
Nottingham are winning 47-10 with 62 mins gone.

Very surprised at the lack of posts after yesterday’s matches, in particular a crowd of 4,000 at Coventry watching an incredibly tight game won by a largely crowdfunded young Pirates side.
In contrast the first televised Premiership match saw a winless Falcons lose their 12th league game in succession.

I had meant to post after Cambridge's win, but after a celebratory beer at the club, I only got home just before the wife served dinner.

Caldy won the toss and took the wind. But Cambridge won the ball, and put together a sequence of phases before scoring in the corner.

But, despite more pressure, a Cambridge infringement let Caldy kick to the corner and set up the catch and drive, which they converted to take a slight lead.

Cambridge put together a flowing move to score a second try, only to be matched by Caldy - so the visitors went in 12-14 up.

In the second half, Cambridge looked after the ball much better, scoring three unanswered tries. An early one by the backs, followed by two catch and drive tries by the forwards,

The Cambridge pack was more on the referee's wavelength, I am not going to say whether the ref was correct - that is a mug's game. Those in black obviously would not agree.

But especially in the second half, we seemed to make fewer errors, won more penalities, and therefore put more pressure on our opponents. And that makes rugby a simple game.

Thanks to all the Caldy faithful who came down, it is always good to talk to real rugby supporters.
Caldy are a great club, who have shown you can build a competitive side organically from within.

There seems to be a strange apathy over things of late.  You could have heard a pin drop for a lot of the Cov game and there have been very few comments on any platforms since.
The news that Cov are to play the England under 20 side in May has been met by one comment on our forum.

It's not just a Cov forum thing. Have you checked the Bedford one? Not a single response to any posts this year so far.
In general, rugby forums are dying - but that's down to those who don't respond any more.
I don't think the Cov forum will be running much longer tbh, given the current lack of traffic.

I appreciate the work that's gone into keeping the Cov forum going but I think it can be a bit hostile at times which might put some people off posting.  However, even Twitter and Facebook have been very quiet since the match.

Cambridge forum is via Facebook and is not an in-depth analysis or opinion gathering - tends to be a bit sweet and cuddly rather than kipper round the chops Shocked

Is that U20 fixture to make up for the Jersey match? I was disappointed that Ealing didnt line up anything. Last year we got a couple of A team games during weekdays that were good fun.

No offence meant Kimbo, it's mainly used by people who are protective of the club and not always conducive to posts that contain any criticism.  That's just how I see it and so, whilst reading posts on the forum, I prefer to comment on other platforms...

That's slightly surprising, Rob.
In all the years I've run it, I seriously don't recall, personally, rebuking anyone who has criticised the club. I have banned just the one poster (not a Cov supporter) several years ago, for serial borderline stuff that could have got both him and the site in trouble. But that's it.
Anyway, as I've gone on record on there before in intending to wind it up (or at least pass it on) due to lack of engagement, perhaps it's time to do so - if your comment reflects the general feeling?
How about you having a go at it?

Read my posts back Kimbo, I'm not saying you or any moderator has rebuked anyone?  Some other posters can be quite defensive where the club is concerned - perhaps with reason at times, other times not.  You are doing a great job and sorry if you think anything was aimed at you.  Why would my comment reflect the general feeling?  It's purely my view and no I don't want to do it thanks - I'll stick to doing the other things I do for the Supporters' Club.

I would say the Coventry forum is amongst the mildest/sanest around. You only have to go to the  SportNetwork sites to see some real echo chambers where comments that disagree with those of the regular few posters are made totally unwelcome.

Well, those are pretty much my feelings too. I've always done my best to foster reasonable discourse (sometimes having to bite my tongue, so to speak, quite hard) while trying to maintain the lightest touch. Which is why I was somewhat surprised by Rob's assessment of the activity/perceptions of some thereon.
Of course there is 'always one' (mentioning no names) on every forum, but I always considered ours quite even-handed.
I'd have thrown my hand in much earlier if I'd perceived it being otherwise.
