Thought we could do with a thread for general chit chat as the season progresses (instead of cluttering up the prediction league thread)

Early days yet but here are my thoughts from  week1  results

WSM looks to have continues their good form from the second half of last season and could be thereabout this season.

Okehampton went very close at Brixham and look to be at home at this level.

Have the Uni got a top side this season or were Launceston below par?

A good away win for Maidenhead who look sure to be right up there this season.

Not sure what to make of Camborne and the ‘Blues’, I suppose a satisfactory start for both teams. Blues were missing a lot of players by all accounts while Camborne are sure to miss Ducker this season.

A hard fought game at Exmouth by all accounts, it remains to be seen if either will be challenging at the top end.

Not sure how Barum are going to fare this season as there has not been any home pre-season matches. On paper it looks as if the backs have been strengthened. We shall see on Saturday when we entertain Bracknell.

That’s three weeks of the season gone and things are yet to unravel. Here are my thought's thus far, what do others think?

In the top match un-defeated Exmouth had a good win against Maidenhead, both teams should be around the top this season.
Exe Uni continue to impress with another high scoring win while the Blues did very well with a try scoring bonus point – surely their first win will come soon.
Drybrook got their expected home win, robbing Oaks of a losing bonus point with the last kick. Both look like good mid table sides at this stage.
Ivybridge remain unbeaten with a thumping win against CAB’s who have now conceded more than 200 pts in the first 3 matches – what the heck is going on at ‘Lanson’ have they lost players this season?
Camborne had a very good win against much fancied WSM (I look forward to seeing Camborne on Saturday at Pottington Rd.).
I feared the worst for Barum as they were missing so many key players at Brix. I still cannot believe the score line – what the heck happened to Brix or were Barum just to good???

Exmouth were tough on Saturday- I don’t expect many (if any) teams to win there, especially when the weather gets worse. No excuses from us, we weren’t good enough on the day.

That Brixham result was a big shock- injuries? Unavailability?

Looking at the teamsheet they put out today, Exeter Uni put out their BUCS team at Braywick, so it really was a great win.

I know it’s only 3 games in, but Launceston are bang in trouble. To lose by such margins indicates they’re way off the pace in this league.

Strong start from Barum, they will be right up there again, no doubt. Will be very interesting to see how they fare at Exmouth in a few weeks.

First win for the Blues yesterday. It had been coming.
Being able to field most of the promotion winning team makes a big difference & if it continues we will move up the league.
Difficult game at Ivy next week tho' who had a terrific win at Maids.
Barum look the team to beat IMO

Very well done to the Blues yesterday for picking up their first win. Also a good win for Oaks (which did not really surprise me as the Uni do not seem to be at there best in wet conditions).  Maids and Ivy was a tight game as predicted, Ivy are still unbeaten and should be in the mix this season. Not sure what’s going on at Brixham as they appeared to make some very goods signings for this season.

With Camborne apparently fielding their strongest side for the first time this season and Barum missing some key players it promised to be a tight game yesterday at Pottington road. It certainly looked that way after the first 20 mins or so when Camborne had a lot of possession and territory but the Barum defence was always in control and Barum built up a 20-13 half time lead. The second half was one-way traffic as Barum proved far too strong.
We will see where Barum are at over the next four rounds as they have a very difficult spell of games coming up.

It looks like anyone could beat anyone else on their day which should make for an interesting season. At the end of the day it will probably come down to squad depth once injuries and un-availability kicks in.

Presumably Exeter can't use the age old excuse for a loss that "...a lot of our youngsters have gone back to Uni..."

Haha nice one 'Dobber' that is the excuse for the rest of us LOL.

With regards to Exeter Uni I see that their web site now list the Saturday side as the BUCS 2nd team.
I suspect a lot of the first team had run outs with the Saturday side leading up to their first BUCS match which was last Wednesday (25th).
I doubt if many of the first team were in the line-up at Oaks on Saturday but do not know. Anyone been following their team selection this year?

The university played a pretty-much BUCS side for the first two league games but then changed to a second team with a few Freshers after that. The reason being that BUCS rugby started last Wednesday and this situation is likely to remain the same for the rest of the season, apart from when there is a break in the BUCS fixtures.
