There's already a Penguins rugby club. Don't need them treading on anybody else's toes.

(Do 'ice ducks', as my bro in law calls them, have toes?).

That'd do.
There are lots on there now saying ABC - Anywhere But Cov. Couldn't agree more.
The further the better though. I wouldn't even wish them on the Brummies...

Some would say you were bitter that Wasps came to coventry... and well played a higher level then your side.

I have had personal dealings with Wasps, which has made me not fond of them - however they didn't take the decision to move to the Midlands to spite anyone. Coventry were National One at the time and didn't exactly draw in the masses of the city then. Wasps for a time did float around the 22-30,000 mark.

They never managed those sort of figures even when they gave 10k of tickets out for free, Wasps really did everything they could to alienate themselves from the rugby and Coventry communities, what has happened was inevitable, they reaped what they sowed.

I'd say there's a good dollop of nonsense in there - but Burnie beat me to it.
As for the alleged attendances in the early days, I've witnessed first hand tickets being distributed like confetti in the pubs of Cov and the county (and even S Leics). The fact that most of those were never actually used mattered not a jot, they just quoted crowds in accordance with tickets distributed. Huge swathes of sky blue seats kinda gave the game away.
The fact that they were losing millions of pounds PA at that time (well pre-covid) just underlines it.
They came to the city to become 'the world's richest club'. They leave it as paupers.
Bitter? Hell no. Chuffed to little mintballs.

Hah. Drove through Andorra la Vella a couple of weeks ago. Never realised that or I might have looked out the ground for a photo.

BBC guy tweeting again:

"Right... nothing official from ACL yet.
But I'm hearing two things.
Full and final bids expected today. NEC and Mike Ashley are the names I've heard.
Likely another application to extend Notice of Intention to appoint administrator today.
But no progress with court as of 14.53

Then:

"I understand Sisu unlikely to make an attempt to purchase unless the company enters administration.

That could still happen of course.
Bids might not be made, accepted or even seen through to completion.

Still so many moving parts. Twists and turns inevitable..."

Eeeh, I just wish somebody would blink! LOL

Both ACL companies now in administration. Announcement very obviously timed for just after the Sky Blues - Blackburn match finishes.
Should pave the way for some interesting manouvering tomorrow.

Frasers lines up bid for Wasps rugby stadium

Company backed by Mike Ashley plots new stronghold in Coventry

Mike Ashley< ="e-caption-trigger " aria-label=" caption" -aria-=" caption" -aria-=" caption" -js="caption-trigger" -test="caption-trigger" style=": rgb34, 34, 34; -sizing: inherit; margin: 0px; color: rgb255, 255, 255; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; overflow: ; appearance: ; touch-: manipulation; font-family: inherit; align-items: center; border-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; bottom: 0px; cursor: pointer; display: flex; height: 40px; justify-: center; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; : ; right: 0px; width: 40px;">

Frasers is at the heart of a scrum for ownership of the Wasps rugby stadium in Coventry, as part of Mike Ashley’s plan to make the city his new stronghold.

Insiders said last night that Frasers is intensifying efforts to acquire the 32,609-seater Coventry Building Society Arena (CBS), which filed notice of its intention to appoint administrators two weeks ago.

Specialists from FRP Advisory are now racing to secure a solvent sale of the stadium, which is also home to Coventry City, in the next fortnight.

Frasers is said to be keen to put its stamp on Coventry and demonstrate its commitment to the area as it seeks planning permission for a vast new headquarters on the edge of the city.

The CBS Arena also houses a hotel and large casino, and Mr Ashley’s appetite for gambling has been a hallmark of his business career.

The billionaire, 58, recently stepped back from day-to-day operations at Frasers and is said to be focused on the new development, which includes plans for a distribution hub with a new head office, retail space, a hotel, restaurant and conference facilities.

The stadium is owned by Arena Coventry Limited (ACL), a vehicle controlled by the Wasps owner Derek Richardson. The Premiership club, formerly based in London, relocated to Coventry in 2014 and hit trouble after income came under heavy pressure from the pandemic. Sources said Mr Ashley is not seeking to acquire the rugby club, which is already in administration.

When it announced its intention to appoint administrators, ACL said: “The arena is a profitable standalone business with huge potential and therefore is attracting strong interest from a number of parties.

“We have filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators and we will be aiming to use this period to complete a deal with a venue operator.”

The exhibitions giant NEC Group reportedly expressed interest in the sale early on, but is now said to have dropped out.

Frasers and FRP declined to comment.

Not really, they have webbed feet which have pointed bits in them to grip the ice!

I suppose Wasps could have a contract to play at Coventry for three years, with a break clause.
And then apply to move after the first season.

That actually looks a quite likely way of allowing them to qualify as a phoenix club for the Championship next season, rather than having to change the rules, ignore the rules, or expel them completely.

So if I have this right they could form a new club and walk away from the vast majority of their debts, bend the rules to play in the Championship as phoenix club and then pi$$ off to cause havoc somewhere else in the country.

That being so they would only need to change one four letter word from their "Once a Wasp always a Wasp" mantra.

I don't know what happened during the lockdown of 2020, but the world has definitely gone mad.

Blackett's also walked into a position at Scarlets.

Mind you, he at least did a reasonable job while working for a bunch of charlatans, so good luck to him.
