Ealing 36 (BP) - Pirates 12 - 53' Ealing making the most of man advantage, which now runs out after a chip through sees Pat Howard score. Very windy.

Ealing 50 (BP) - Pirates 12 (2T) - FT. Bodilly breaks theough for score at the death. Ealing did a great job of playing to the conditions in a gusty wind. Pirates got on Sir's bad side, and didn't get any breaks.

Great league going down to the wire. As no one is going up the clubs should agree to have playoffs anyway. The TV companies would love it.

That really is an a quite outstanding Cov win, the league double into the margin.
Let nobody now doubt Cov's credentials away from the BPA
All achieved with a very under strength front row.
Roll up Hartpury on Friday, we owe you one ( or two ).   SmileSmileSmileSmile

Thanks mate. Apart from missing a beer in the RAG I'm almost pleased that British Airways cancellation saved me from seeing the game today but Mond are a great club which I look up to and given that Jersey massively shuffled the playing squad today the Championship should not produce results like today. Jersey lost a game at home against Yorkies like that a few years ago and thankfully the Ravers v McQuins match was a far more interesting contest.

Of all Donny’s defeats this season that one has annoyed me the most. A Coventry team who’s scrum was put into the blender for 80 minutes came away with 5 points. There was a 5 minute spell near the end of the game where Cov gave away 6 scrum penalties on their own line. 6 successive penalties which wasted 5 minutes and yet only on the last one does a Cov player get binned. Farcical. I don’t want to sound disrespectful but a Donny team on form would have beaten that Coventry team by 20 points. We lost it due to our own errors and silly indiscipline.

And scoring fewer points...
Yes, Donny might have done better, but maybe not so much against a first-choice instead of a third/fourth choice Cov front row? Who knows?

It’s a fair point. I have to say Cov were the best team I’ve seen this season at Donny in terms of ball in hand. They looked good every time they had the ball. Their offloading game was absolutely brilliant and they’ve got plenty of pace out wide. I can definitely see why they’ve racked up some big scores this season. Their number 8 was an absolute tank as well.

It was a good game- we were let down by the late hit by Sam Hudson on the Coventry try scorer - we conceded 2 tries when he was rightly in the bin. Other than that our pack performance was strong, and overall a better showing. Not sure why there wasn’t a yellow card after our penalty try was awarded…. Oh well there is always next week

That was a stupid and needless bit of ill discipline that sadly isn’t a one off this season for the Knights.

Certainly a vast improvement in the back seven over previous seasons. In fact I'd go so far as saying the best they've had at this level ever (with the '96-ish set being a near second, but then the standards were arguably quite a bit lower).
I just hope they don't lose any more of them in the close season, other that what we know about already, and that the front row/tight five can be brought up to scratch, and in more depth.
That way, they may be challenging right at the top. Possibly...

Oh dear. Very remiss of me. I totally missed that final point in my previous response - so here goes...

Always enjoy the trip to Richmond, and did so yesterday in spite of a very one-sided match. which I've written about HERE

Off the field, it was great to catch up with a number of old friends, altho' I was sorry not to see OG & M728, and know that CC & several other visiting supporters were torTomatoed by BA's inability to fulfil their flight schedule. It was our last chance to hear a pre-match address by the home club's legendary President 'Millsy' as he steps down this summer, and was at his ascerbic, rollicking best. I would happily have had KO put back 20 mins so he could have carried on. Weather was good and there was a decent crowd of 1,150 for the double-header, but shame it wasn't closer. Next month's derby against 'McQuins' at the RAG could be a real nipper...

The result from the Wirral was well-received back at the RAG & I look forward to hearing Big Eddie's take on it - he's been quiet since the trip to Jersey. I note the match report in TRP, modestly marking Caldy having escaped relegation. Mathematically that may have been the case yesterday, but everyone outside of the NW knew they were well clear after the magnificent 20pt-haul in January. And a crowd of 1,895 very respectable too - exactly equalling the number from Jersey's visit in October IIRC.

I thought Ealing played extremely well yesterday, especially considering their injury list being a mile long. To put things in perspective, they have c.55 players on the books, but had to get a prop in from the Academy to fill out the bench. Pirates fans travelled well, and were a good laugh as alwasy.

One thing that really confuses and bothers me is that the official attendance was only listed at just over 1000. There is absolutely no way that the attendance was that low: based on the capacity of the stands, the total attendance had to be closer to 1400 or 1500. That is nowhere near what Bedford gets, but reporting attendance 40 or 50% lower than actual makes no sense to me, especially when that is one of the sticks used to beat the club by its detractors. I suspect that for some reason, Ealing only counts full price adult entries, but given that even my six year old son generated £10 of revenue for the club through match day snacks, I don't see why they do that. Very puzzled indeed.
